Strange Talent Of Luther Strode TP Vol 1 Justin Jordan Tradd Moore Books
First I must agree with others that this book is definetly for Adults only. The Violence is amazing, but very graphic, so not suggested for young children.Second, if you are a comic book fan who likes classic story lines, but with a more violent take on it, then go ahead and buy this now. This is the first (from what I have heard) book of a trilogy. This is the story of a young high school comic nerd who buys a mail-order magazine that is supposed to get you fit and all that (to stop the bully), but it is really a test to see if anyone posseses the talents of extreme control over the body, as our hero Luther Strode does.
(Minor-Spoiler portion) I really enjoyed that Luther struggles like in any other origin superhero story, to maintain his powers and to teach people leasons through beating up the bad guys. Trying not to kill anybody and be the "Ideal" superhero as he is a comic book nerd. But eventually he learns that wont work, and begins to start killing, and thats when things get VERY interesting.
The Art in this book is supurb. Currently Vol 2 is about to end next month, "The Legend of Luthor Strode", and as much as this one is an origin story, the next is more physical action after Luther as embraced his killer nature. There were some very sad moments, and if a book can make me feel emotional in any way, I take that as a sign of great writting.
Bottom line, BUY THIS BOOK!!

Strange Talent Of Luther Strode TP Vol 1 Justin Jordan Tradd Moore Books Reviews
The Strange Talent of Luther Strode isn't the kind of comic you come across every day. Gratuitously violent, endlessly shocking, and constantly entertaining; this is the kind of comic that you've been praying to find. High school student Luther Strode is a skinny weakling that's suffered his share of abuse in his life, hence why he seeks a way to get big and strong...and winds up becoming just that and so much more. What would happen if one day you had superhuman strength and abilities? Chances are this could pretty much be it. Incredibly bloody and violent from beginning to end, this first volume of Luther Strode features some deft storytelling and a relentless pace that will keep you glued from beginning to end. Writer Justin Jordan and artists Tradd Moore and Felipe Sobreiro are soon to be major talents to keep an eye on in the future, and The Strange Talent of Luther Strode is a comic to keep your eye on too; this is really, REALLY great stuff.
This is kind of a mix between "Spider-Man" and "Fist of the North Star" series. Like Spidey he starts out as a confused teenager with newfound powers. Somehow derived from a comic book "muscle add"? I said it was also like "Fist of the North Star" and that is because he punches dudes faces pretty much off their heads in a style akin to Kenshiro from the ladder. All around fun read. I hope they come out with some volumes of this one! I'm on board for this series!
There are a lot of mixed reviews on this book. To put it simply, its cliche but lots of fun! Very Gorey but a little campy (the good fun kind of campy). Almost like a Tarintino film. Think Kill Bill. The only problem is that it is a little short. But again, it is a fun read. If you like stuff along the lines of Kickass, then you will enjoy this book! I will be getting the next issue fur sure!
Well drawn, but bloody as hell. Luther Strode gets everything a teenage boy wants--invulnerable strength, incredible healing powers, an incredible physique--but loses everything he truly values. No matter how tough you are, there's always someone tougher and more ruthless. He triumphs physically out of pure rage, but the price is too high. A slugfest par excellence and a morality play too. The motives of the villains are unclear, probably waiting for Volume 2 (which is delayed).
Really loved this book! It was a ton of fun! Tradd's artwork is awesome! And Justin's writing is great! If you want a book that's good from a technical stand point, and just a lot of fun read. READ THIS! I will throw in the disclaimer that it's pretty violent and there's a good bit of gore. That didn't bother me at all, the hyper-violence actually gave it even more personality in my opinion, just thought I'd throw that out there so you know. I also met the creators at Heroes Con and they were awesome as well, which only makes me like the book even more.
If you haven't read this yet, you should!
Really good book. Bought it on impulse and was surprised by it. The art is good, not the best, but definitely not the worst. The writing was what made this book five stars. It is well plotted, tells a unique story, has interesting characters, sets up the main characters motivations well, creates a villain that feels threatening, and is paced expertly.
This book also scored a few extra points thanks to the posters that are in the main characters room.
In many cases comics have a tried & true method; guy has something wrong with him, eventually gets powers, & proceeds to save the day & get the girl.
While you're getting some of those same concepts in Luther Strode, I feel the way they go about doing it is refreshing & keeps you interested in reading throughout the entire book.
The artwork in this series is flat out gorgeous looking (yea even the blood & guts), & really helps paint a vivid picture for the text portion of the book. The story is great, full of quite a few plot twists that I didn't see coming. You get a hearty dose of bloodshed in this one, but you also receive a story full of a struggle for power, loss, love, & heartbreak. I'd love to see Hollywood make this into a movie, but I find it highly unlikely due to its crazy level of violence & bloodlust..but I'll cross my fingers!
Bottom line, if you're considering buying, DO IT. You won't want to put the thing down. I read the entire book in a single sitting, but thankfully I bought the other two in the series to keep the momentum going. I suggest buying the other two along with it because the first book definitely ends with a cliffhanger that you'll want to explore ASAP.
